The 2nd Anusara Grand Gathering will be held in Estes Park, CO, September 20-22, 2010. It's an inspiring experience of 800 Anusara yogis from around the country coming together to do yoga! Each morning is a master class with founder John Friend and in the afternoon is the opportunity to study specific topics with top Anusara teachers. Last year it sold out, so register soon!
We're adding a new class, Yoga for Men. This is a Mixed Levels class that concentrates on areas that men are typically tight, such as the shoulders, hips, hamstrings, and back. A variety of stretches for these areas are offered, as well as alignment tips for greater results and to stay safe in the poses. See Class Descriptions for more details.
We're still trying to find the perfect time for the Saturday morning Mixed Levels class! Based on student comments we're moving the class time to 9:00-10:30am. Perfect for those of you who would like an extra 30-minute snooze on Saturday mornings!

Restorative Yoga
This is a healing and rejuvenating class for all levels. It includes gentle stretches, breathing, and restorative poses, as well as simple movements to increase range of motion of the major joints. It is ideal for students with chronic symptoms such as muscle/joint pain, stiffness, weakness, or fatigue, or anyone who wants a restful practice.
Gentle Yoga
Gentle Yoga Classes follow the program of regular classes of the same level but at a slower pace and with a range of modifications to make the poses progressively more accessible. Sun salutations are replaced by gentle flows.
Basic Yoga ~ Fundamentals
The Basic Anusara® class is designed for students new to yoga or for those who want to refine their alignment. Over the course of several weeks we focus on fundamental poses to strengthen and open the hips, legs, back, and shoulders. The Universal Principles of Alignment according to Anusara are presented slowly in a variety of basic poses, and students are introduced to key breathing techniques and relaxation.
Yoga 1.5 ~ Experienced Beginner
This class is designed as a continuation of the Basic class. The emphasis is on expanding the variety of poses practices, refining understanding of proper alignment, building endurance and flexibility in the body, and introducing yoga philosophy. This class is also appropriate for students who have had no yoga instruction before but are already active.
Yoga 2 ~ Intermediate
This class is ideal for those who already practice yoga and feel ready to extend their practice to more complex poses. A wide variety of poses are taught, including the fundamentals of back bends and arm balances. This class is designed to empower students to gradually advance through levels of practice. Yoga philosophy as it relates to daily life, breathing exercises, meditation, and relaxation are also included to offer a full experience of yoga. It is recommended that students have at least 6 months of yoga instruction before moving into this class.
Yoga 2.5 ~ Intro to Inversions
This class systematically and progressively introduces students to the inversion poses, including headstand, handstand, forearm balance, and shoulder stand, while continuing on with the regular syllabus. Approximately every 8 weeks a new inversion pose is presented, and broken down into component parts to practice, making the specific inversion more accessible.
Yoga 3 ~ Advanced Intermediate
Yoga 3 introduces more challenging standing poses, back bends, and seated poses. Also handstand, headstand, and forearm balance are included. This level includes refined study of Anusara's Universal Principles and the Shiva/Shakti Tantric philosophy, as well as pranayama, meditation, and relaxation. It is recommended that you complete several months of Yoga 2.5 before attending this class. Regular practice outside of class is strongly encouraged.
Yoga 4 ~ Advanced Practice
This class is for students with an extensive yoga background. Students must be able to hold a freestanding headstand, kick unassisted into handstand at the wall, and push up to Urdhva Dhanurasana with straight arms. Anusara's Universal Principles are studied in greater depth as well as the Shiva/Shakti Tantric philosophy. Pranayama, meditation, and relaxation are also incorporated. At least one year of regular Anusara study is necessary, and ease with much of the GOH Yoga 3 syllabus. Regular practice outside of class expected.
OP ~ Open Practice
This is a flowing style class, linking each posture with the breath to orchestrate the movement from one pose to the next. It is a vigorous and challenging class for intermediate and advanced students, with all categories of poses included. A strong understanding of Anusara alignment principles is suggested in order to get the most enjoyment out of this class as well as to prevent injury.
Mixed Levels
This class accommodates a variety of yoga experience. The instructor will gear the class to the majority of the students with variations and modifications given to accommodate both beginning and experienced students.
Yoga for Men
This class is designed especially for men's bodies and common physical activities. It is a Mixed Levels class and will accommodate a range of yoga experience. There is an emphasis on stretching the hamstrings safely, as well as loosening the shoulders, hips, and back. The class is sequenced to increase flexibility while maintaining the strength and stamina needed for a variety of sports activities.
Pilates & Yoga Fusion
Experience the benefits of a pilates and yoga combination class. This class focuses on the abdominal muscles crucial to supporting a healthy back. Basic yoga and pilates postures will be progressively seamed together to strengthen your core as well as challenge all muscle groups in new ways. This is a mixed-level class open to experienced beginners and higher.
Body Rolling
Roll your body out like dough, stretching and elongating your muscles, dislodging tensions and discomfort, increasing blood flow, and promoting healing. Prepare your body for yoga with ball exercises that offer the benefits of a deep self-massage. This is a mixed level class open to those without major injuries or limitations. Body rolling balls are provided.
